Information Technology Services

General Information

Information Technology Services has fourteen computer labs (a total of twenty-six individual rooms) on the DeKalb campus. For a complete list of the lab names, locations, hours and phone numbers, go to Lab Locations and Hours

All labs run Windows XP and general productivity software such as word processing and spreadsheets. Students can use the labs to read and send e-mail and browse the web. Each lab has at least two black and white laser printers and at least one color scanner.

You need your Z-ID and password

To use the labs, students must have their AccountID (Z-ID) and password. Look up your AccountID at www.logonid.niu.edu.  You may be required to show your OneCard and you are required to adhere to the NIU Acceptable Use Policy

Printing - bring your OneCard

Black and white printing is free but you need your OneCard to swipe at the printer release station. You cannot print more than 32 pages (16 duplex-printed pages or 32 single-sided pages) at one time per hour except in the computer science labs. Printing more than 32 pages in one hour will be considered transferring unusually large or numerous files or messages and will be a violation of the NIU Acceptable Use Policy.

Lab rules

Note: No cellular phones, food or beverages are allowed in the labs.

Note: The ITS Lab Operations Staff reserves the right to ask users to leave the lab for non-compliance to the posted lab policies and/or any behavior disruptive to the lab environment. Non-compliant users may also be subject to disciplinary action by the NIU Judicial Office.

For students with disabilities

Most labs are wheelchair-accessible and most have workstations that accommodate students who are blind or visually impaired. See Adaptive Technology in ITS Computing Labs.

Lab attendants

All labs have student attendants on duty at all times. The attendants help students access applications and data. They DO NOT help with homework.

The ITS computer labs employ approximately 120 students to work as lab attendants and supervisors. These jobs provide students with not only some extra cash, but a valuable entry on a resume. Applications to work in the labs can be found at Lab Employment.
